Self Management for Young People
Self management - skills for life
Living with a long-term condition is something most of us experience at some point in our lives, whether for ourselves or a family member / friend.
We therefore wanted to explore how best to share self management skills and ideas with youth in the Highland region to build a toolbox of skills:
Skills to use now
And later in life
-
to manage and improve your health and wellbeing
-
to manage your own long-term condition(s)
-
to better understand the challenges that others experience and be able to help and support them
-
to support young carers who are helping to look after parents, grand-parents or siblings who are living with a long-term condition
-
to manage your own long-term condition(s)
-
as part of a future career
-
with work/life balance
-
to maintain a healthy balance and enhanced wellbeing in life generally
Self Management is for everyone
Self management is not just for people with a long-term condition themselves. Anyone who has a friend or a relative living with a long-term condition, can use self management skills to help them AND to help themselves. Many young people are young carers who help a family member and for anyone doing this, it is very important to look after their own health and wellbeing too. Self-care is essential to make it possible to continue to help them.
Our Highland Youth Living Well Modules
We have 10 modules designed for youth groups that explore self management techniques we can use every day to improve our wellbeing. Youth workers and home-schooling parents can sign up on the Resources page to find out more.
Looking after our own health and wellbeing now helps us to keep well in the future and the self management skills shared in our Highland Youth Living Well modules will be ready to help whenever being unwell, injured or recovering from an operation happens in our lives.
